Northamptonshire Scouts Adult Training Team

Steve Pittaway - County Training Manager

Steve has been involved with Scouting since his days as a Cub, joining his first pack in 1967. (Actually, he attended his first camp aged about 15 months, where his parents were leaders, but he can’t remember much about it!) Steve’s first leader role was ASL in Buckinghamshire in 1978, becoming SL a year later and running the troop for the following six years. During this period, he developed the troop to over 60 strong and then established a second troop to ease the burden and broaden the availability of scouting in the area. In 1985, Steve took on the role of GSL, due to his work commitments.

Following a job move from Bucks to Northants, Steve joined Hardingstone as ASL in 1988, looking after the vacant GSL role briefly during 1992. After the birth of his daughters, family, work and travel commitments prevented him from taking an active role but he supported Earls Barton where his stepsons were Cubs and Scouts and was on the group executive. He was persuaded to return to uniform and was SL in Earls Barton until the end of May 2001.

Work commitments meant that Steve was not able to return to a warranted role, but he did join the County Adult Training Team in 2004 so he could support the development of new and existing adults. In addition to delivering modules and acting as a course director Steve has taken responsibility for the Module 25 – Assessing Learning and co-hosts the modules covering the training competencies with Dean Smith.

With the county re-structuring in early 2006 Steve has been asked to return to uniform and has been appointed as the ACC for Adult Support and County Training Manager.

Steve holds a Scout Wood Badge and is working towards his Commissioner ‘beads’. He was awarded the Medal of Merit in 1987.
